I'm curious about this blog and just wondered what others thought about it.

(psst, could you move this to General Discussion? or maybe RZ polls since it's related to The Residents)

To be honest, I do think it is a bit odd that such a strange and small blog would be linked all over The Residents' website before it had even really started. And yes, it's rather strange that Gio's picture on his "About" section happens to be a stock image or that the domain registry information is rather... interesting. (Copy and paste the small text if you wish to stop suspending your disbelief). But in the end, it doesn't really matter whether Gio is "real" or not. To quote the man himself:
Quote
Yes, The Residents do seem to be playing a game, but it is not “guess who we are.” If that were the case, the game would be over the moment someone guesses correctly, and where’s the fun in that? The Residents’ game is actually “come pretend with us,” which is much more satisfying because it doesn’t have to end.

So in the end, as a fan of The Residents, I consider him a real person who really lived and journaled through The Residents' entire discography. And their grandchild posts all of those journal entries onto a blog.

Now... I do have to say that I do take some of Gio's assumptions a bit more seriously than those of a standard fan. Something about him just makes him seem... persuasive... so when he says he thinks The Residents were maybe planning an album based on dreams... well, his persuasiveness gets to me and now I think that might have been a possibility!

Also on an unrelated note, the pictures on all the blog posts have funny mouseover text and it took me a while to discover this, so I'm assuming not many other people have realized this as well.

Double post! Seems like Gio himself has commented on the subject...

(I always thought it'd be funny if Gio started blogging about himself but... I didn't think it'd happen!)

I never thought GG was one of the Rez, but it was always obvious to me that none of these were historical writings, and were like everything to do with the Rez, an obfuscation. Why would he not speak about any of the UWEB titles if he were such a long term fan? How did he obtain a copy of the original Santa Dog and write about it 2 days after it was released? In the end, it doesn't matter, it's just more writing about the Rez. I just am finding all the hype around these non-musical activities (Randy's videos, Fox/Bobuck duality....) to be less and less engaging. I have always cared about the music, and less about the mystery, as it hasn't been a mystery for a long time, and the supposed mystery doesn't enhance the music in anyway.

one thing that Grandpa Gio said that i really agree with is that it's really all about playing along, whether or not the mystery is there for you. in a way, The Residents still pursue their concept, but they fully take advantage of all available mediums. on a conceptual level, i find that the music is enhanced by the flavor of mystery they were using at the time.

luckily for you, there's a new album in March. maybe that'll get your spirits up.
