Yes, our transcripts are almost the same, and the juice of this little sad story appears to be pretty clear to me.

Also in my random notes about the album is something someone else discovered rather recently.
This video manipulates a bit of the audio during Making of a Soul to make a very faint monologue much more audible, which is pretty cool. I think it was hidden away because it was more personally revealing than the rest of the album, but... well, it's still pretty confusing, that's for sure. I won't theorize much about it since from what I can make out of it, it seems to just reassure what most people already think they know about the album, but it's definitely pretty interesting.

I posted my tentative corrections and additions to the monologue's interpretation on the Lyrics Board, but maybe it's good to paste the final rendition here, too. What do you think of it? Did I nail it?

"Once upon a time in a faraway land south of the steaming jungles, north of the mighty rivers and east and west of the wastelands, there lived a human person. He named himself with the making of the sounds he liked. His name was only a grunt, but he liked it and liking something was a perfect awareness that he'd had that was not directly associated with his survival. In fact, he made this in almost every facet of his life. He preferred to make up things he liked. But you'd hardly expect less from a human person. The man met a human person and they liked each other, and that's what they liked about liking each other. But then they hung up about what they liked, and suddenly one day they needed to remember what they liked, or why they liked, and what if they weren't even really likely to care; and this was the second awareness not directly associated with their survival. The juice seemed to be that you stop wondering how you happened [I no longer love you] to like it that the other person didn't like. The third awareness was the most important and made things sheerly out of nostalgia, to the same degree [????????]"

CheerfulHypocrite's Work is very subtle and IMO should be included in Not Available's booklet.
He (or she) is using the same very technique which is the object of his analysis to transform his own words. For example, what originally was
"…reengineer the Motorik-like 4-4 beat into less accepted time signatures. This not only obliges the Listener to constantly substitute more plausible interpretations for words but gives the illusion of The Work being something other than 4-4"
becomes
"...reengineer the Motorik-like 4-4 beat into the more accepted time signatures. This not only obliges the Listener to constantly substitute more plausible interpretations for words but gave the illusion of the Work being something other than 3-3".
This not only obliges the Reader to constantly substitute more plausible interpretations for words, but gives the illusion of the Work being something other than rational. This exercise occults the reliability and usefulness (repeatability) of the Method, i.e. Praxis of Obscurity applied to Theory of Obscurity itself.

"It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key".
W. Churchill, 1939

Fan Words / Re: A Thread For Introductions
« on: May 10, 2019, 01:12:15 pm »
Hello everybody.
I'm Lorenzo Peyrani, 34-year-old guy from Turin, Italy. I am a writer and a musician. I am an independent researcher specialized in TS Eliot. I was a political activist, but now those days are gone. I am interested in psychoanalysis, esoterism, mathematics and philosophy.
I discovered the Residents in 2004. I was in Berlin and a human person invited me to dinner and made me listen to the Third Reich 'n Roll. I wasn't immediately convinced because of the all-covers nature of that album, but as soon as I was back in Italy I heard Duck Stab! and the Commercial Album and was forever hooked.
I had a band that was strongly influenced by the Theory of Phonetic Organisation, at least during its first, most radical, period. I have to say that I mostly love the first seven albums (Meet to Commercial), and was kind of disappointed when I saw the RZ live in 2011. I should have known that I wasn't going to listen to their 70s music, still I was naive enough to feel "betrayed". I would probably like it better today. Anyway, since that gig I rarely listenened to our dear eyeballs until the last few months, that have seen a flaming comeback. The news of Hardy Fox's death brought me back to Resident-mania, maybe to a more severe form than the ones I experienced before, a deeper trip.
I'd like to partecipate to tribute to HF if I get my **** together. I've been here for just a few days, reading the old posts, and I have to say this is a wonderful "place". CheerfulHypocrite's analysis of Not Available is what made me register. I hope to see some activity here, in the not-too-distant future.
And this is about it. I salute you.

RZ Lyrics / Re: Not Available hidden monologue

Two more tentantive reconstructions:
1) the second voice, slower, coming in at 00:38, might well be saying: "I no longer love you";
2) the last sentence might be: "The third awareness was the most important and made things sheerly out of nostalgia, to the same degree [????????]".

These, together with some minor corrections, sum up to:

"Once upon a time in a faraway land south of the steaming jungles, north of the mighty rivers, and east & west of the wastelands there lived a human person. He named himself at the making of sounds he liked.

Do you agree?

RZ Lyrics / Not Available hidden monologue

I don't know if this has been discussed already, but I think it definitely belongs here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qado4F_gU3Y

The owner of the YouTube channel, Tmec Rep, and another user, TheCocoYouKnow, deciphered a good deal of the monologue:

"Once upon a time in a faraway land south of the steaming jungles, north of the mighty rivers, and east & west of the wastelands there lived a human person. [?????????] the making of a sound he liked. [???????] liked [??]; [?????????????] remember what they liked, or why they liked, and wonder if they even really liked each other; and this was the second awareness not directly associated with their survival. The choice seemed to be but to stop wondering [???????], but liking what the other person didn't like. The third awareness was the most important [????????]" (fades out)
A slower voice at 0'38": "I no longer [????????]" (also fades out)

Now, my takes:
"[?????????] the making of a sound he liked" sounds to me "He named himself at the making of a sound he liked".
"[???????] liked [??]; [?????????????] remember what they liked, or why they liked, and wonder if they even really liked each other" sounds to me "But then they hung up about what they liked, and suddenly one day they needed to remember what they liked, or why they liked, and what if they weren't even really likely to care".
"The choice seemed to be but to stop wondering [???????], but liking what the other person didn't like" sounds to me "The juice seemed to be that you stop wondering how you happened to like it that the other person didn't like".

So, editing the whole thing together, we get:

"Once upon a time in a faraway land south of the steaming jungles, north of the mighty rivers, and east & west of the wastelands there lived a human person. He named himself at the making of a sound he liked. The juice seemed to be that you stop wondering how you happened to like it that the other person didn't like. The third awareness was the most important [????????]"

What do you think of my additions (and of the rest of the transcription)? Do you have corrections? Can you get something of what is being said after "important"? I think I hear "made", "started", "things", "sad" and "so", but I cannot formulate a sentence.

IMHO this monologue has a lot to do with Not Available's themes, and it might be the most direct and revealing part of the lyrics. Maybe we could link this discussion to the analysis of the album in the Projects section.

Let me know!!
